JUDGING
Judging of entries is conducted by a panel of judges representing the museums and galleries sector, graphic designers and print publishers.  Entries are first shortlisted and then awarded Highly Commended or Winner. A Best in Show awards is selected from the winning entries.

Judges provide comments for winning and highly commended entries but not shortlisted or rejected entries. Judges are not available for commenting further on entries and the judges word is final.

JUDGING CRITERIA
Entries are judged on the following criteria:
  • Original creative idea, innovative concept.
  • Design skills in the expression and extension of the idea through suitable typography, photography, illustration, form structure and material use
  • The publication’s ability to communicate effectively and meaningfully
  • Production and technical values, suitable stock, production process, colour quality and consistency, embellishments or incorporating ecological concerns.
2013 MAPDA judges (L-R): Jude Savage (Art Gallery of Western Australia, Rick Cochrane (Bytes'n'Colours), Ian Wingrove (Wingrove Design), Nat Williams (National Library of Australia).
